Trailbuild Day Sunday 22nd November.

November 11, 2009

Redlands Trailbuild Day Sunday 22nd November 2009.

Redlands trails will be moving part of the Summer lightning trail in advance of forestry enterprise replanting work. The last two de-forested sections of the trail are going to be replanted, this will entail forestry enterprise placing wire fencing around them. While we will lose these sections of trail, in order to link the trail to the “tramway section”, we will be moving about 100 yards of path at the bottom of the slope on the last section of the trail. The trail currently is in the middle of the soon to be fenced area, and we need to put in a new path along the boundary at the bottom to skirt round the fence when it is installed.

We have the need for a limited number of volunteers to come and help us achieve this goal. If you would like to volunteer, please send an email to the following email address: redlands.trailsATgooglemail.com

Building on Sunday, May 13th

April 27, 2007

We’ll be working on the new section of Summer Lightning on Sunday, May 13th. The new (still mostly secret) section is oh-so-almost finished, and we hope to finally get this new bit of trail opened as a result of this build day. Every last little bit of help will be needed to reach this goal, so if you can make it along for the whole day, or even half an hour, you’ll be helping to open up another couple of hundred metres of trail!

Gavin, Mark and the Davids will be on site from 10am – just ride to the end of Summer Lightning and listen for the sound of all the tools being unloaded. Dave is going to put some signs out to make it easier to find the trail work on the day, so keep an eye out for posters on the trail markers.

Once we’re finished with this section of Sumemr Lightning, we plan to do two more things. We’re hoping to add a great new ending to BKB, laid out by probably the best trail designer in the area. Secondly, we’re going to do a lot more work on the boggy bit of Summer Lightning to make it fast and furious.

Come along on Sunday and help out, and we’ll get all this shiny new trail done a load quicker! We will be providing tools and work gloves, as usual – all you need to bring along is food water and yourselves. If you’ve got some strong boots, that’s always handy, too.

See you there!

If you didn’t get last night’s Trail Mail, then we will be building again at the far end of Summer Lightning this Sunday, 14th January.

If you didn’t get the Trail Mail, then email TrailsATredlandstrails.org and I’ll add you to the list!

Here’s the details below – remember to put our work day phone number into your mobile so you can find us. The number is: 07783 360358

There will be another trail building day on Summer Lightning this
coming Sunday, 14th January. We’ll be working on extending the existing
trail on towards Westcott, and all volunteers are welcome.

The
new section of Summer Lightning is almost ready – but we need one last
push to finish it off before it’s ready to be ridden. Come along and
give us a hand and it’ll be ready all the quicker.

If you’re travelling up to the hills and want to find us, get to Coldharbour – see it here: http://snipurl.com/13yv4
and ride or walk along Wolvens Lane. We’re working at the very end of
Summer Lightning – so carry on along the trail right up to the end bit
which finishes on a climb at a crossroads.

If you can’t find
us on the day, call the following number – it’ll be switched on for
trail days only, so if you want to find out more in the mean time, just
reply to this email and we’ll try and answer your questions.

We’ll be returning to Summer Lightning on Sunday, 14th January next year. We’ll be working on completing the trail – finishing off drains, tidying up berms and clearing the top and bottom sections of trail.

We’ll be sending out a trail mail soon, and one immediately after the New Year as well, so don’t forget to sign up to our mailing list. Just mail use at redlands@ATredlandstrails.org

For starters, here’s a contact number for us during build days: 07783 360358
Put it in your phone and you’ll be able to find us on the day. Easy peasy.

There will be another trail building day on Summer Lightning this coming Sunday, 10th December. We’ll be working on extending the existing trail on towards Westcott, and all volunteers are welcome.

Our last build day sorted out a fair bit of stuff – we cleared a whole lot of new trail, and started draining and benching the last bit of Summer Lightning – which we marked out but didn’t bench during the summer.

The 10th December trail day will continue work on the new section, and hopefully we’ll get to clear more of the other section, too.

If you’re travelling up to the hills and want to find us, get to Coldharbour and ride or walk along Wolvens Lane. We’re working at the very end of Summer Lightning – so carry on along the trail right up to the end bit which finishes on a climb at a crossroads.

See you there!

**Update**

Oink added a comment below on how to get there – here it is in full:

When walking along Wolvens lane from coldharbour, there is a ‘ginger
bread’ style house on the right and just after this is a turning on the
left which will take you to the end of the current trail and where the
building is taking place

26th November build day – new Summer Lightning

November 12, 2006

On Sunday 26th November, we will be building an extension to Summer Lightning in order to take advantage of new land available to us. This will add a scrummy downhill
finish to the trail, which currently ends in a section that climbs up the hill. We’ll carry the trail across the crossroads up there, and then down another hillside. See? There was a reason after all.
If you fancy coming along, we’d love to see you. We will provide tools and guidance – we need to bench in the new line, and do a bit of work on the climb, which was too dry to dig on during the summer when we marked it out.
Even if you can only stop off for ten minutes during your ride, your help will get a brand new section of trail finished off and ready to ride even sooner. See you there!
